Participation Costs
The purpose of the following is to make all participation costs transparent and publicly available. This will, when combined with information about funds available through fellowships, allow prospective applicants an overview of the funds available to cover operational costs (prior to any additional external fundraising in connection to the individual doctoral candidate study), i.e. funds that are directly available to support the implementation of each individual doctoral candidate study.
Full-funding
All FONASO doctoral candidates are in principle fully funded from the very start, i.e. the awarded fellowship(s) cover all salary/stipend costs and operational costs. However, regarding the latter, individual candidates may want to undertake, in collaboration with their supervisors, additional external fundraising.
Participation costs and available operational net funds
Participation costs (that form part of operational costs) are here defined as predictable institutional-level standard costs that are independent of the individual doctoral candidate study. These may, for instance, be tuition fees or overhead charges. Participation costs are set and charged in accordance with national legislation and they therefore vary across host institutions.
The table below provides an institutional-level overview of non-salary income, participation costs and available operational funds across the seven European partner institutions. Please note that the table is subject to continuous revision; final amounts in contracts may differ. All calculations are done for the entire 36 months period and assuming (i) that the laboratory based operational fund option (€21600) through the Erasmus Mundus is available, and (ii) that the mobility grant for third-country doctoral candidate is available (€7500, so EU nationals should reduce total operational fund available with €4500 - 7500). Note that the Alnarp/Bangor/Copenhagen fellowships are automatically available to selected candidates employed at these institutions; they are awarded in connection to the FONASO doctoral candidate selection (and may contain a salary component; this is then deducted in the table as part of the participation costs). The two last rows in the table thus constitute estimates of funding available to support the implementation of each doctoral candidate study (e.g. field work, lab, conference participation).
