AgroParisTech (i) trains Master of Engineering, Master of Science and Doctoral students, through state of the art research and partnerships with companies, (ii) contributes to the advancement of scientific knowledge, in close association with public or private research centres, (ii) develops international relations to enhance the career prospects of its graduates worldwide, and take its share into the constitution of a global community of research. AgroParisTech hosts 2000 graduate students, 450 PhD students (40% are international PhD students), 230 academic staff and 300 researchers in its 39 research laboratories.

 

AgroParisTech’s School of Forestry, Agricultural and Environmental Engineering (AgroParisTech-ENGREF) is in charge of the MSc programs in forestry. At AgroParisTech-ENGREF training and research in tropical forestry are organized mainly on the campuses of (i) Montpellier, a city which network of graduate institutions and research centres is the largest national scientific community working on tropical issues, and (ii) Kourou, in the tropical forest district of French Guyana. The staffs of AgroParisTech and of the research partners (IRD, CIRAD, CNRS, INRA) involved in the training in tropical forestry of its students include approximately 60 academics and researchers. Within the field of forestry AgroParisTech-ENGREF has passed collaboration agreements with over 30 academic institutions around the world.

Montpellier and its suburbs have about 420,000 inhabitants. It is the capital and the largest city of the Languedoc-Roussillon region. Under a sunny and warm climate, facing the Mediterranean Sea to the south and backed to the north by the mountains of Cévennes, Montpellier is a very lively town with hundreds of fine restaurants and bars, cinemas, theatre, and opera house. Montpellier is well-known as a ‘university city’ with 60,000 students spread over 11 disciplines. At the European level, Montpellier plays a major role through its research activities in various fields including biology, medicine, agronomy, environment, chemistry, and computer sciences.
